In the mid-21st century, humanity pushed forward with plans to colonize Mars. A lot of people came to this new frontier in hopes of a better future. At around the same time, a single world government called the "Global Union" was formed. This was an attempt to quell the looming crisis of a world war -- brought about by friction between the world's two super powers. A weapons treaty drawn up by the GU led to the destruction of many armaments used for aggression in the old world.
