First "catch up" Japanese DanceDanceRevolution title. Most of the song list consists of new KONAMI originals from DanceDanceRevolution ULTRAMIX and DanceDanceRevolution EXTREME CS (North America), along with a few new licenses, some of the licenses from DanceDanceRevolution EXTREME CS (North America), some old KONAMI original DanceDanceRevolution songs, and two new KONAMI originals.
Song list as a result has a large emphasis on BEMANI crossovers than most Japanese CS DanceDanceRevolution releases. Of the 55 KONAMI originals in DDR FESTIVAL, only 19 are original DanceDanceRevolution songs/original remixes.
Interface is taken directly from EXTREME CS (America), though licenses, default KONAMI originals, and hidden songs are all colored differently from one another unlike in that game.
It also uses the same scoring system as EXTREME CS (America) (full combo required to AA, and songs are worth 70% possible score before bonus points).
Most of the ULTRAMIX songs have brand-new HEAVY charts on Single (INSERTiON(Machine Gun Kelly Mix) got a new Single BASIC chart only). None of them have BEGINNER charts.
Double charts remain untouched, except for ABSOLUTE (Cuff -N- Stuff it Mix), which got a new Double HEAVY chart.
Keep Ya Body Movin' and There 4 you are the only ULTRAMIX songs that did not receive new charts.
Several pieces of background music from ULTRAMIX are re-used in DDR FESTIVAL -DanceDanceRevolution-.
First Japanese PlayStation 2 DanceDanceRevolution release compatible with Sony's EyeToy accessory, which can be used to play mini-games and exclusive modes.
None of DDR FESTIVAL -DanceDanceRevolution-'s songs feature CHALLENGE charts in GAME MODE.
桜's CHALLENGE charts are in the game, but they're only playable in the Adrenaline Course.
BeForU members Riyu Kosaka and Noria Shiraishi appear on the back cover of the DDR FESTIVAL -DanceDanceRevolution- box, as well as in screenshots on the official site advertising the new EyeToy games.
Electro Tuned(the SubS mix) uses its original background and its DDRMAX -DanceDanceRevolution- banner, despite the song receiving a new set of graphics in DanceDanceRevolution EXTREME.
Can unlock everything in DanceDanceRevolution Party Collection through System Data Support.
