Biohazard Outbreak is a survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 2. It was first released in Japan on December 11, 2003, followed by North America on March 30, 2004, and in PAL regions on September 17, 2004. This game was the first in the Resident Evil series to offer both cooperative gameplay and online multiplayer, although the online feature was not available in the PAL versions.
The game presents a series of episodic narratives set in a zombie-infested Raccoon City, where players control eight characters, each with their own unique abilities. The events of *Outbreak* unfold during the same general time frame as Resident Evil 2 and 3. A standalone expansion, Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2, was released the following year. While the game received praise for its graphics, entertainment value, and multiplayer features, it faced criticism for the lack of voice chat.
