Twelve Stones is an adventure videogame set in 1648, in a true, real context, recreated partially by fiction. It takes place in the “Palácio da Cerca” (enclosure's palace) - virtually reconstructed with historical realism. Located in the old medieval core of Mafra, the old palace was then rebuilt into an enlarged new mannerist building.
Twelve Stones is an adventure videogame which departs from the real Past. Not everything is “historical truth”, however - little is known about the “Palácio da Cerca”, its estate and inhabitants in the 17th century. To fictionalise on misty times, respecting the contexts of the epoch, is sometimes the unique possible way to create new interpretations of the Past. In this sense Twelve Stones proposes – following the interpretation of the ruined building and of 18th century texts (report on necessary works) – a possible functional distribution of the rooms and circulation paths of the palace. Twelve Stones aims to reflect the political and cultural ambience of the times of the Restoration of Portuguese Independence in 1640, not only in Europe but also in the overseas empire (from Brazil to Japan).
