Bitmap Soft is proud to present the latest game from Jared Chansen of Werebear Games. The game is heavily inspired by Redwall, WarCraft, and the tactics genre, Brookwood: Pocket Tactics is a tiny tactics game for the Game Boy Color.
Built with the Forgotten Engine by nowheresoft, (and GB Studio), it is a game about managing your troops in a battle of medival animals. Play as one of four factions (the Khalifa of Rodents, the Sultanate of Cats, the Eashir of Birds, and the Hashd’n of Lizards) in an Islamic-inspired world.
In the genesis of time, the world lay shrouded in bitter cold, its resources scant and its terrain unforgiving. Yet, amidst this stark backdrop, life persisted, clustered around the life-giving warmth emanating from the towering presence of a volcano. Then, in a cataclysmic upheaval, the volcano erupted, birthing The Great Fissure and forever altering the landscape. With this transformation came a newfound warmth, and from the cooling lava emerged mystical crystals pulsating with raw magic.
In the wake of this metamorphosis, life flourished as never before. Resources burgeoned, and the tribes dwelling in the vicinity of the dormant volcano found themselves basking in abundance, living in peaceful coexistence. However, this harmony was short-lived as divisions arose among the tribes, cleaving them into factions defined by species: the Khalifa of Rodents, the Sultanate of Cats, the Eashir of Birds, and the Hashd’n of Lizards.
Each faction, fuelled by diverging ideologies and political ambitions, found themselves embroiled in a tumultuous struggle for dominance. The first sparks of conflict ignited when the Eashir of Birds seized upon the power of the enigmatic magic crystals known as World Hearts, their formidable might tipping the balance of power. In response, the Hashd’n of Lizards retreated in search of their own World Heart, while the Khalifa of Rodents and the Sultanate of Cats forged an unlikely alliance to confront their avian adversaries.
With unity forged from necessity, the Khalifa and the Sultanate joined forces, exiling the Eashir of Birds in a bid to quell the rising tide of bloodshed. For years, the treaty that bound these unlikely allies has stood as a bulwark against further strife. However, as tensions simmer and old wounds fester, the fragile peace brokered between the Khalifa and the Sultanate teeters on the brink of collapse, its foundations tested by the ever-shifting sands of time and politics.
