Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is a computer game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft . It is the thirteenth installment of the Assassin's Creed series and the sequel to 2012 's Assassin's Creed III . Worldwide, the game was released on October 29, 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 . The versions for PlayStation 4 , PC and Wii U were released in the Netherlands and Belgium on November 21 . The release date of the Xbox One version was November 22 . The game had shipped 10 million copies worldwide before the end of 2013. [4] On December 6, 2019, the game was released on the Nintendo Switch together with Assassin's Creed Rogue as The Rebel Collection.
The game features three major cities in the Caribbean : Havana , Kingston and Nassau , which are under the influence of Spain , the United Kingdom and pirates . In the game there are 50 locations to discover, and a 60/40 ratio of naval power and land exploration respectively. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag has an open world where the missions are more similar to those of the first part of the Assassin's Creed series, but have fewer restrictions for the player. There is more openness to the world early in the game than in Assassin's Creed III, where players had to stick to the "script" much more. The player has the opportunity to explore jungles, ruins , fortresses and small villages . The hunting system seen in Assassin's Creed III is also retained, allowing the player to hunt on land or with a harpoon at sea. In Black Flag the player has the option to add ships to his own fleet , which he can then send on missions.
Multiplayer is also back, with new settings and game modes, although this only takes place on land.
