The object of the game is to protect the fruit from the marauding fruit monsters until the timer (at the top of the screen) gets to zero. You have 3 methods of doing this:
1) pick up the fruit and move it out of the way of the monsters.
2) use ether pools to put the monsters to sleep temporarily (only two pools are allowed on the screen at once).
3) trigger the magnetic pad which kills all the monsters and returns them to their cave (this can only be done 3 times per game).
Each of these methods uses up different amounts of energy and this is limited (displayed beneath cave). Your energy is replenished by 10 units if you pass over the power cells at each corner of the maze. If a monster reaches a piece of fruit, it will pause momentarily to absorb its energy and mutate. After each mutation the monster will become more aggressive and move faster. A life is lost if the player is caught by a monster or runs out of energy. An extra life is awarded at 10,000 and the time ticks away slower as the player progresses to higher levels.
The keys are £ and down cursor to move left and right, A and Z to move up and down, up cursor to pick up and drop the fruit and also to trigger the magnetic pad when the player is over it at the bottom of the maze, and TAB to drop an ether pool.
Points are scored for trapping the monsters in ether pools, killing the monsters by triggering the magnetic pad, and points are also awarded for any energy left over and fruit remaining when the time reaches zero. The game ends when all the players lives are lost or all the fruit is captured by the fruit monsters.
